Phoenix v Top Of The Table Uni 1

Posted by Jo O'Daly on 23 February 2020

Tonight Phoenix took on Uni 1. After having 5 weeks off it was a very difficult start. Uni took a very early lead after some disappointing mistakes from all on court and lack of communication it ended 14-4 to uni.

The second qtr started off well for firebirds capitalising on turnovers from our superb defence Kia and Georgina who was sick we brought it up through court controlled from our middies Jaz Lys and Georgia simple passes into our shooting end allowed Alice and Jamie to convert. We sorted our centre passes and clawed back the deficit and nearly drawing with uni qtr score 11-12 (uni 1) bringing the score to 26-15.

Our third qtr saw a change in team bringing off sick player Georgina for our outstanding Jenny but our momentum dropped we couldn’t get the ball into our end even after some great defensive work and only managed to score three goals uni went on a few runs and we couldn’t catch up ending that qtr 35-18 qtr score 9-3 (uni 1)

Some stern words from our coach a change in attack and kicking ourselves up the butt we went into the final qtr with a bang winning 6-13 (Phoenix) making the final score 31-41 to the opposition. Some strong shooting from all of our shooters and the defence making some exciting interceptions kept us in the game.
