Griffins Remain On Winning Streak

Posted by Jo O'Daly on 11 December 2019

The last match of the first half of the season; and the last match of 2019!  With 4 wins already under our belt, Griffins were ‘fired’ up to make it 5.  However, Pilgrims are never to be under-estimated.  Griffins had a different starting line up with Ellen and Jaz in the shooting circle.  The team made full use of back-up options, driving forward and quick circle play to take a healthy lead in the first quarter.  The second quarter saw more of the same with some great turnover balls.  Courtney replaced Jaz and the team took to court with a good lead going into the second half.  The third quarter saw energy levels drop and Pilgrims (having made changes to their team) came back within 4 goals.  There were some great interceptions by Ellen, Lizzie, Laura and April and with a determination, the team held onto their lead through a nail-biting fourth quarter.  Final result was Firebird Griffins: 29; Pilgrims 23.  This puts us at joint 3rd for the first half of the season.
