Another Win For Phoenix

Posted by Jo O'Daly on 29 September 2019

With a bit of a slow start, Phoenix soon picked up their energy and really showed how simple netball works. All of the basics were there; from communication to passing, and the flow throughout the court and teamwork, proved why these girls were worthy of a 42-29 win.

Jamie (GS) and Georgia (GA) displayed great rotation and confidence in the circle against a very tall defence and showed how well shooters can work together to get the ball in. Alyssa (C) and Alex (WA) supported this with their awesome feeds in to the circle and clever passing around the shooting third. This was also helped by the changing of players for Phoenix at half time with Laura coming on at WA, putting on great pressure in defence and giving good support for the shooters around the circle.

Jaz (WD) proved again her determination and effort with consistent pressure at the defensive end and incredible feeds into the circle and support at the attacking end. She hassled well and her work rate didn’t drop throughout the entire game.

In defence, Jenny (GD) and Georgie (GK) worked well as a team and put on great pressure, causing lots of errors from the opposition and several held-balls. Georgie read the game very well throughout the court and made some incredible interceptions, resulting in a lot of goals being scored from a turnover. After half time, Toms made some changes at their shooting end, resulting in a very tall shooter dominating. Having said this, the girls in defence still worked hard to prevent goals.

A slower game than usual but still great work levels and a well-deserved win!
