Match Report | Warming up, Stoke looked very focused. Karen mixed the team up with Naomi moving to GS and Charlotte going to GK. Right from the start Firebirds looked a different team with five goals (no misses) in three minutes. Stoke kept making mistakes from the centre pass, which was continuously intercepted by Jenny and Victoria only to be punished by Sophie and Naomi. Half time brought a score of 14 - 0 with Stoke only getting three attempts at goal and not managing to score. The second half Karen swapped Naomi and Anna. Anna got her eye in immediately and scored some very nice goals from a distance. Between Sophie and Anna who worked well together only missing five shots in the second half and scoring nineteen. Some good individual performances and play was reasonably fast and accurate but it had no flair, creativity or the dynamic moves I hoped would have come from such a talented team. Both games looked labored and forced. The final score was 33 - 0. Yes, a very nice score but not the performance I was expecting and the team would probably be vulnerable to stronger opposition. |
